The Etched City Comments
The Etched City (K.J. Bishop)
Book Description (from book flap)A dark fantasy that will rock your world. Not for the faint of heart.
I liked parts of this book, but if I weren't so stubborn about finishing what I start, I could have stopped before the end not been bothered by it. The Theological debates don't seem to fit in. An short aside with the Reverend could have been a nice addition to the story, but as it tries to take over the whole book, it just got tedious for me. As many of the visions of the characters are drug-inspired, I wonder how much of Ms. Bishop's writing is similarly inspired... In my opinion, this is definitely not a top 25 book.
This really is a great read, from begining to end it was captivating, beautiful writting and unique story make it a joy to read. It is dissapointing that it has flown well under the radar, a true gem
After 112 pages, this one is a miss. It is actually pretty good literature. It features, among other things, long theological debates disguised (poorly) as dialogue, and pity descriptions of life in the desert and in the poor barrios.
I do not read fantasy book for spiritual enlightenment, pathos, or intellectual stimulation . I read them for entertainment. Not entertaining so far. Far too much like work. I may not finish.
