Series: Mazalan Book Of The Fallen

Book Description

The Malazan Empire simmers with discontent, bled dry by interminable warfare, bitter infighting and bloody confrontations with ancient and implacable sorcerers. Even the imperial legions, long inured to the bloodshed, yearn for some respite. Yet Empress Laseen's rule remains absolute, enforced by her dread Claw assassins.

For Sergeant Whiskeyjack and his squad of Bridgeburners, and for Tattersail, their lone surviving mage, the aftermath of the siege of Pale should have been a time to mourn the many dead. But Darujhistan, last of the Free Cities, yet holds out. It is to this ancient citadel that Laseen turns her predatory gaze.

However, the Empire is not alone in this great game. Sinister, shadowbound forces are gathering as the gods themselves prepare to play their hand . . .

Conceived and written on a panoramic scale, Gardens of the Moon is epic fantasy of the highest order--an enthralling adventure by an outstanding voice.

Well I had heard great things about this series so I was very excited to give it a go. While reading the first few chapters I found myself completely confused as to what was happening. I consider myself to be a very intelligent person with a great vocabulary yet I has a hard time understanding a good portion of the book. Since I was already invested in reading it I kept reading til the end when finally things started coming together and making sense and connections were made that were not previously alluded to. It felt as though the author was trying almost too hard to be mysterious and the book ended up seeming like a blur that only clears up towards the end.

Garden's of the Moon is something special. It's a unique book -- kind of a cross between George Martin the Iliad and Glen Cook. Hard to describe really. It's epic in the sense of EPIC however. A lot of people put the series down after the first book or two. However STICK with it to book 3 -- that's where it all starts to make sense and it becomes GOOD!
